Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a film-maker and actor family. Both professions she pursued herself. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento, at nine, was her very first film. The film featured her in a lead role as Cristina Comencini in her first film Zoo, 1988. Michele Soavi directed The Church 1989. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's daughter for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). It was with Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career really took off and she could change from playing young girls into more complex, mature role. In Trauma (1993) it was the first time she made her debut with her father, well-known Italian film director Dario Argento (her mother is one of his favorite actors, Daria Nicolodi, playing an anorexic girl in search of her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera is her third movie with her Father, the first two films being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting has been utilized in the film by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot in the film, and she also had a role as the physically challenged girl in the film. She also appeared in a film with Michel Piccoli as Traveling Companion in the film Peter Del Monte. This part earned her an award from David di Donatello (for the top actor) as well as the Grolla of Oro. Asia made her directorial debut in 1994 with two shorts. Prospettive.
